This weapons drill illustrated by De Gheyn, originally entitled Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende S’iessen, is in three parts: for the caliver, a lighter, smaller bore longarm than the musket, the musket itself and the pike. The main differences between the caliver and the musket are in loading; the caliver is loaded from a flask, the musket from a bandoleer, and in the fact that the lighter caliver did not require the use of a rest.

Such was the impact of this drill book that it was widely copied throughout Europe appearing in more or less unaltered form in the drill books of all nations throughout the seventeenth century, including in such well known English drill books as those by Henry Hexham and William Barriffe. Even after the adoption of the bayonet and the disappearance of the pike its influence can clearly be seen throughout the eighteenth century.
It is no exaggeration to say that the drill of Maurits van Nassau is the ancestor of all modern drill in use today.

Nice illustrations, but all the text pages are missing.

There are NO text pages. This was the book for 17th century soldiers.
